Music Development Plan

Music is an integral part of school life at St Anthony's.  The aim of music in the curriculum is to provide opportunities to develop the skills of investigation, appreciation, exploration, creative composition and performance.  Based on the National Curriculum, our intent is to provide opportunities for children to participate in a variety of musical experiences through which we endeavour to build up the confidence of all children to perform to the very best of their ability.

Music is also directed towards specific events such as hymns and songs for assemblies and masses and music performances such as our Christmas productions and the Easter passion play.

In addition to this, our children can learn to play a music instrument through private lessons with our visiting peripatetic music teacher.  Children can learn the recorder and keyboard in Year 2, then broaden to acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, flute, clarinet and saxophone in Key Stage 2.  A large percentage of our pupils also enter ABRSM, Trinity and Rock School exams, with a high level of success.  Those who play an instrument are invited to join our school orchestra.    Our choir, St Anthony's Singing Stars, rehearses weekly after school and performs at a range of community events.  Both the orchestra and choir perform in school asssemblies and in our annual music concert 'Music on a Summer's Eve'.

Please see attached our Music Development Plan following our review of Music in 2023-2024.
